Ecclesbourne Glen footpath reopens

Vegetation has been cleared all along the coastal path from the East Hill down to the stream, the steps have been replaced and new fencing has been installed at the boundaries.

People can now resume walking along the coastal path from the East Hill to the rest of the country park.

To Rye & back via Westfield and the Lights

Our last stroll (and it really was!) of the year, but perhaps not the last ever, as a volunteer has stepped forward to organise further walks – watch this space!

We had visitors with us from Adelaide, Daniel and Kim and we owe The Ship Inn, in Rye  many thanks for making us welcome with Poppy, and giving helpful cheerful service throughout as we moved tables and generally took over.

Lunch took rather longer than envisaged and Daniel & Kim had to get back to the station to catch a train to (eventually) London.

Owing to a lack of cameras Misayo was official photographer for the day.  We had time for a look at the church and the outside of Ypres Tower, and around the square and then it was time to catch the bus back via Westfield, to see the Christmas lights.  Misayoo handed over the camera for the photo taking here, so mea culpa.

Thanks too, to the driver of the 342 who, passing through Westfield,  turned off the interior lights, and drove slowly.

Ave atque vale - Hail and Farewell

Sadly, after five years, and much deliberation, Hastings Strollers is coming to an end.

If someone wants to take it over, please get in touch!

Details of our last, and farewell walk, will be posted on Tuesday.

The blog will remain online for at least a year, to show some of what is available in our lovely part of the country.

Thanks to all those who over the years who have spent time with us (especially Misayo for bravely climbing over and under during the visit to the Secret Pool, and to Jill, who did it too, and also planned and led some of the walks, including the last.).)

Sedlescombe again–penultimate outing

We still didn’t manage the proposed walk – due to an accident (and we do hope no one was seriously injured) the bus was over half an hour late, so there just wasn’t time.  None the less we had had a pleasant walk through the village, over fields and lunched in the churchyard.

Tuesday October 28th Walk

Hoping to do the Seddlescomb walk that was supposed to happen last month, but it may be a bit damp underfoot.

So for now, follow instructions from

Tuesday, 30th September–Seddlescombe

but be prepared for a last minute change!

Tuesday’s Walk cancelled

I am really sorry to cancel yet another walk in this blighted year, but due to illness and people being away, there is no one to lead this walk.

If anyone wishes to take themselves, the village store in Seddlescomb sells a booklet of walks in which this one is described.  (There’s also an interesting antiques shop.)
